    Partagas Serie E No. 2

    Origin : CubaPartagas
Format : Robusto Extra / Duke
    Size : 140 x 22 mm (5.5 x 54)
    Released in : 2011
    Hand-Made
    Price : ~$15 each

The Partagas Serie E No. 2 was officially released at the XIII Habanos Festival in Cuba in February of 2011. Distinctive features include a large ring gauge and simple but beautiful packaging. It took me about an age to try one of these (they have been resting for over 1 year in my humi), but now I am so glad I did. This cigar is not cheap, but it is a real treat.

    Appearance : [rating:4/5]
This is a very nice-looking cigar. It’s large and has some real heft to it because of the wide ring gauge, but it doesn’t feel all that heavy. Squeezing it, you won’t find any soft or hard spots. It was very consistent all throughout. The wrapper is a very light brown color with some noticeable seams. What initially concerned me about it is the fact that it doesn’t have that much of a sheen—at least not the ones I tried. The wrapper seemed like it might be a little on the dry side, which made me worry about the cigar. As it turns out, I needn’t have worried at all. It was just right.

    Construction : [rating:4.75/5] (4.75)
Aside from a few very minor touch-ups to the burn line, the construction on this cigar was flawless. The draw was perfect right from the start and stayed that way the entire time. You cannot ask for better construction than this. It was pretty much perfect!

    Flavor : [rating:5/5]
This is another area where the Partagas Serie E No. 2 excels. At $15 a stick, my expectations were sky high. So the fact that this stogie met and exceeded them says a lot about the flavor profile.

Initial notes kicked in with wood, leather, tobacco, and an earthy backdrop, with something of a “barnyard” motif. There was a hint of sweetness right from the beginning, but very little spice.

The earth note didn’t stay in the background. It rose to the forefront during the middle third. At this point, a creamy texture emerged, along with some nuttiness. There was still almost nothing in the way of spice. The sweetness got stronger, but still remained in the background as an undercurrent.

A lot of cigars kind of drift off in the final third. Either they loop through flavors you have already experienced, or they keep doing more of the same, or they get hot and harsh. The Partagas Serie E No. 2 did none of those. This is a cigar that really shines in the final third. Going into the last third, the sweetness finally came out of the shadows, revealing itself as an incredible honey flavor. Some spice finally emerged, balancing out the sweetness. This was very unexpected, and was a delightful surprise. I also detected wood and hay notes again, as in the beginning, and a hint of either coffee or chocolate. The creaminess toned down a bit, but remained a key element.

I really enjoyed the fact that this cigar was very different from the Serie D No. 4 (which is a good smoke but never achieved my favorite status) or the Serie P No. 2 (a cigar that I like a lot). All three ‘series’ provide distinct flavors.

    Value : [rating:5/5]
I am usually tempted to rank something down in this category simply because it was expensive. But that seems rather unfair. There has to be something worth a high price, and in this case, I would say I’ve found it. The Partagas Serie E No. 2 is exactly what I want when I pay $15 for a cigar.

    Overall Rating : [rating:5/5]
This is just a top-shelf smoke. I literally have no complaints. The construction is superlative, and the flavors are amazing. It isn’t just the flavors individually as notes, but the way they blend together and the way the cigar evolves. A lot of cigars remind me of pop songs with the A, B, A, B, A, C, A sort of structure. But the Partagas Serie E No. 2 is more like a fine piece of classical music. It evolves in directions you never expect, but there is nothing random about it. It’s a beautiful symphony of flavors from start to end.

I bought a few singles of these to try from FCC.
Your review is right on with mine concerning the journey of flavors and overall great smoking experience. The wrapper, the perfect draw, and the fact that this one keeps its integrity right down to the nub. I did have burn corrections along the way but these werent rested more than 2 weeks so settling time was short. But I agree – its top drawer. My favs include the HDM epi-deluxe, RAS, and partagas D4. This is a good add-on!

Bought from Havana Epress inx Sydney. Good tobacco smell prior to lighting. Great first third. Creamy milk chocolate flavours. Accompanied by a great Porter. Mild in the first third. Great draw. Even burn. Moved to to slight medium in the second third. Hints of white pepper. Cedar notes. Hints of cut grass. Great progression from first to second third. Final third more pronounced white pepper. Continued gradual progression.
Great after dinner cigar. Great progression throughout. Really enjoyed the experience right through to the final 1 ½ inch. Slight uneven burn in the final third. Had to touch up once but very satisfying experience. Will purchase again. Second half accompanied by a Leffe Bruin. Good match with the cigar. Total smoking time 75 minutes.

I had this one a week ago for the 1st time … & I went to local LCDH immediately a day later to buy a box of 5.
I.e. very very good cigar imho … & even though I have limited experience with this thus far it looks like it attacks my top 4/5 list (with Bolivars & Trinidads).

Def. can recommend this one, great smoke of approx. 100 minutes

I’ve had quite a few of these and can safely say it is my favourite vitola from the Partagas marca. Every time I smoke one I become hypnotized by the flavour. Fantastic and underrated stick!

I love this cigar but occasionally have uneven burn issues with it which are frustrating.

Sweet tobacco flavor on the lips, Delicious. Smoked well and fairly even. The last third was miserable, harsh and bitter. Didn’t over-smoke it. I expected better from this pricey stick.

Had one of these the other day. It was a blinding smoke and I enjoyed it thoroughly! The review that you give is very accurate. But I found the draw a bit looser than what I’m used to. Definitely smoke again

I have smoked this cigar for years. It is one of the finest robustos in the world. Simple as that.
