As I was walking around the Cigars International Super Store this past Memorial Day, this cigar caught my eye. Now I had smoked several Padilla cigars before, so I knew the brand name was good. And with a cigar this cool looking, I had to pick one up for myself, as well as one for my father.

If the appearance of this cigar doesn’t make you want to smoke it, then I don’t know what will. I have never seen a cigar this awesome before. Not one, but three different types of tobacco used in the wrapper. They are wrapped in a crossing pattern almost making it look like an argyle sweater. There were only a few little veins, but given the pattern, there wasn’t much room for thick veins.

With the complexity of the wrappers, I wasn’t expecting it to hold up too well. I was right. The wrappers, which were cut into thin strips, kept peeling apart from each other. They stayed fairly intact until about half way. At that point the 3 wrappers started separating.
Flavor : Rating:
This cigar started off somewhat bland. There were little bits of spice that came through, but overall it just tasted like a generic cigar. After about a half inch or so, I started tasting cinnamon. After smoking a half inch of no flavor, the cinnamon gave me quite a surprise. To another surprise to me, I started getting even sweeter notes of apple coming through. The taste combined for a toasted apple cinnamon stick. Around the halfway point, the apple started mellowing out. This gave way to a slight peppery flavor. When this cigar got down to the last couple inches, the cigar got a bit earthy and a bit toasty. Then, right around the end, the cigar had little wood notes coming through.

For the price, you can’t go wrong with this mild – medium bodied stick. Plus with how complex the wrapper is, I am surprised it wasn’t at least a $15 stick. Had I spent $15 on this stick, I would have been highly upset with it. But with its average price, I can’t complain.

Overall there were no really strong flavors at all in this cigar, which was kind of disappointing. On the bright side, it looked cool. The ash was a light to medium shade of gray that was relatively strong. It held on for about an inch and a half. The smoke was light gray, but didn’t actually produce that much smoke. The aroma was earthy with a little spice, but nothing fantastic. The draw on the other hand, got easier as the cigar went on. The finish wasn’t anything amazing. The taste was just ok. Nothing stood out to me as particularly amazing. I give this cigar some bonus points for its amazing appearance. If you have the chance to get one, do it because it will look cool in your humidor.
