Another day in for the 2015 International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers trade show and another flood of Cigar releases. Between the past two days, there’s been enough new releases to keep most of us satisfied for the coming year, but now we’re over the halfway point and the announcements just keep coming. Dive on into this selection of new upcoming cigars at the IPCPR.

Coming to the U.S.: Casa Turrent

Back in 2013 A. Turrent released this line into Canada and Europe, however after leaving their previous distributors Atladis USA, they did not have the production capabilities for a domestic release in the U.S.

Earlier this year there were reports that the Casa Turrent was slated for a June release here, but at IPCPR that date has been amended to within the coming month. A bit of a rocky start to the first of their in house distribution, but if the quality is up to par with their illustrious family name then maybe we here in the states could find it in our hearts to forgive and forget. This will be the only current brand carrying the Turrent name. A. Turrent Puro Corojo and Triple Play were discontinued last year.

The Casa Turrent comes in a San Andres maduro wrapper with a double binder of San Andres criollo and Nicaraguan tobacco. The filler is a three part blend consisting of San Andres criollo, San Andres negro, and Nicaraguan leaf.

Initial release will consist of three sizes:

• Robusto($8.50): 5 1/4 x 50
• Torpedo($9): 5 1/2 x 50
• Gran Robusto($9.50): 5 3/4 x 52

La Palina: Red Label and Family Series Miami

La Palina is introducing the companion cigar to last year’s Black Label series as well as a new blend of their Family series after moving production from The Bahamas to Miami.

Red Label is a mild blend focusing more on flavor aspects than strength. It features an Ecuadorian habano wrapper and Ecuadorian habano binder with filler from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

Initial release is consisting of four sizes all coming in a 20-count box:

• Petit Lancero($9): 6 x 40
• Robusto($10): 5 x 52
• Toro($10.50): 6 x 50
• Gordo($11.50): 6 x 60

The Family Series is a bit of a special cigar due to, owner, Paley’s involvement with it and the restructuring of the line that recently went under way after the move. The cigars consist of an Ecuadorian wrapper and binder with filler from Nicaragua and a bit of Jalapa and Estelí. The Family Series will come in a unique magnetic box of 10 except for the Pasha that has each cigar in a singular coffin and comes in a 20-count container. The Pasha size of the cigars will surely intrigue some with its odd shape that Paley has called a “Brush-foot Churchill”; it has about an inch of tobacco protruding from the end allowing the smoker to taste the filler alone before the wrapper begins to burn.

It will release in three sizes at the beginning of August:

• The Babe: 5 1/4 x 50
• The Alinson: 6 x 52
• The Pasha: 7 x 50

Anniversary Releases: Flor de Gonzalez and La Tradicion

Flor De Gonzalez (FDG) has announced its new line that will pay homage to their original cigar lines they released 20 years ago. To celebrate, they have decided to get back to their heritage. The FDG 20 Aniversario will come in two versions –an Ecuadorian Connecticut and maduro- featuring the original wrappers their first line of cigars had. The Connecticut has a mild profile with a medium flavor strength while the Maduro is much more full bodied. Both versions contain a Nicaraguan binder and filler.

Release will consist of three sizes at the end of August:

• Robusto($9.60): 5 1/2 x 50
• Toro($10.10): 6 1/2 x 54
• Torpedo($10.60/$10.90): 6 1/2 x 52

La Tradicion is also celebrating their 20th anniversary by releasing a version of their most prominent lines, The La Tradicion Cubana and the Sabor Cubana, under the title Reserva Familiar.

Cubana Reserva Familiar is draped in an Ecuadorian wrapper over Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. Sabor Cubana Reserva Familiar has a Mexican San Andres wrapper with Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. Louis Sanchez, owner, noted the Sabor Cubana as being much stronger than their previous line and has a “strong punch” to it. Both lines are heading to retail ASAP after the trade show.

Chinnock Cellars Cigars: XOXO

Chinnock Cellars is known for using themes of wine making, their other popular endeavor, in their cigar lines. This time, however, things are made different by the use of premium cognac in a hand infusion process on each individual leaf. The XOXO blend is a culmination of the two used in their Cremoir and Terrior brands.

XOXO comes in a glass tube -inspired by their wine bottles- stored for 90 days then aged for an additional 30 days and comes in a piano black finished box. All art, down to the ring, has been crafted by artist and cigar photographer Manny Irate. Owner, Brian Chinook, made sure to note that the cognac used is the highest quality available on market. However, no brand names have been given out. Release will be extremely limited to only 100 boxes of five cigars with an MSRP of $150.
