    Los Blancos Cigars

    Los BlancosOrigin : Nicaragua
Blends : Sumatra, Maduro, Connecticut, Criollo
    7 different sizes
    Hand-Made
    Price : ~$5-8 each

Los Blancos cigars are hand-made in Esteli, Nicaragua. The Premiere selection features 4 different blends: Sumatra (Honduran/Nicaraguan filler, Indonesian Sumatra wrapper), Maduro, Connecticut (US Connecticut Shade wrapper) and Criollo (Habano Criollo Honduran wrapper). 7 sizes are available.

The folks at Los Blancos were kind enough to gift me a sample of each of their 4 lines of cigars. After trying them all in various vitolas, I brought all of my notes together and noticed one thing – they were all quite the same. So, rather than 4 separate cigar reviews, I believe that a single brand review is most fitting.

    Appearance : [rating:4/5]
The different cigars each have a distinctly colored, yet similar band. They are eye catching and I think would be noticed in even the most crowded humidors. Every cigar I tried had a very smooth and nearly flawless wrapper. Each respective wrapper had exactly what you would look for; the maduro was dark and oily, the Sumatra a rich brown. Very consistent and of high quality.

    Construction : [rating:4/5]
Each of the cigars were firmly packed and offered a great draw. I know what you’re thinking, “How could they all be the same?”, and honestly I was surprised as well. The entire bunch gave me no problems in terms of draw or burn. Some slight touchups were needed here and there, but no major issues were to be found. On average, the ash held on for an inch or so, falling off neatly.
I did find that the robusto sized cigars were a bit less firmly packed, and offered the loosest draw of the bunch, but otherwise these were the definition of consistency.

    Los Blancos Connecticut

    Flavor : [rating:2.5/5]
Surely this is where I’ll have to break it down between the cigars, right? Wrong. I’m not saying that the Connecticut tasted just like the Criollo, but I will say this: If you’ve ever had a cigar with the respective wrapper, you know how these are going to taste. Over each of my tasting notes I found the phrase, “typical flavors you’d expect.” My favorite was the Sumatra, least favorite the Criollo, but that’s just personal taste. None of the Los Blancos I tried got sour or harsh, or exploded with flavors. They were just good, but not great, and my rating of 2 ½ stars for flavor is meant to say that these would fall right in the category of average for me.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all. In fact I see this as an upside. Personally, there are many times I’m in the mood for the chocolate-coffee flavors of a maduro with no surprises. Many times I’ll want a smooth and creamy Connecticut for my afternoon drive. Los Blancos does one thing very well – consistently good flavors. I’m quite interested to see how they continue to produce this type on consistency over time.

    Value : [rating:4/5]
I’d much rather get a “textbook” cigar for $8 than one that falls apart, or falls short. I like the price point on these because of that. I think that as a gift for a novice or experienced cigar smoker, this cigar is a great idea. For an everyday smoker, or somebody who finds himself handing out cigars to friends, these are perfect.

    Overall Rating : [rating:3.5/5]
I found all four of the Los Blancos offerings to be solid, and definitely cigars worthy of purchase. They won’t blow you away, but they won’t turn you away either. Give them a try, and post your thoughts in the comments below!

Seems like a good value if you are not looking for something to knock your socks off with something new and amazing each time.

I have been underwhelmed by these. I am yet to try the Sumatran though.

I like your Cigar Reviews. What are the best Cuban Cigars you have ever smoked ? I would love to include them into my retail store.
