Recently I mentioned this smoke in a review I did for a different release from this same manufacturer. Where the other stick failed miserably, the Juan Lopez Don Juan redeemed this cigar manufacturer in my eyes. Care and craftsmanship were self-evident with this limited edition robusto. I want to reinforce my previous recommendation. This smoke would satisfy most palates and is quite a bit more economical than its limited edition competition.

    Appearance : [rating:3.5/5]
Consistent and almost uniform in their appearance, the Juan Lopez Don Juan Benelux Edition was relatively free of spines along its length. Wrapper had few, if any, signs of “bloom” but on a couple of occasions, the wrapper was not uniform in color, giving the stick the appearance of having spiral stripes from foot to head.

    Construction : [rating:3.25/5] (3.25)
There were much fewer technical flaws with this smoke as compared to its Petit Corona brethren. Sticks were uniform in shape, length and density with scarcely any voids in the filler. Lighting was easy and the cigar drew quite well. The burn was not even, but was not severe enough to have to correct it but maybe once or twice per stick, if at all.

    Flavor : [rating:3.5/5]
With the Juan Lopez Don Juan you get the earthy notes you expect from this genre, but they are delivered in a much more pleasing fashion. Initial draw delivers a light nutty note with a peppery finish. Where the Don Juan Petit Corona assaulted my senses, this smoke delivered all the robust flavor and complex notes I would expect, but delivered with moderation and finesse. If you like a “pop” of flavor in your robusto, you will get that here. The flavor notes remained constant throughout.

    Value : [rating:3/5]
Juan Lopez fared fairly well in delivering an enjoyable experience with this product offering. Not so expensive that it would place itself out of reach for the average aficionado, the complexity and intensity of the flavor profile makes this choice an easy one for casual and very experienced cigar lover alike. Given the opportunity, I would purchase this product again without hesitation.

    Overall Rating : [rating:3.25/5] (3.25)
As a good smoking experience for the money paid, the Juan Lopez Don Juan Benelux Edition fit the bill more than adequately. I would gladly accept one if offered and even purchase a box were they available. My trusted tobacconist makes a good choice in recommending this stick as a pleasant change of pace for the more peat-like and earthy robustos I usually gravitate towards. I cannot find many shortcomings in this cigar. It is a true crowd pleaser for those that like a little spice in their smoke. Well done!!

    Enjoy!!!

I picked up a single one of these at La Casa del Tabaco in Bruges. Wasn’t too sure about it but the salesman was REALLY hyped about it so I was convinced. After a couple of months in my humidor I just couldn’t resist it any more. The buttery soft wrapper and exquisite smell was just calling out to me. I had the same experience with the burn and the taste, which was right up my alley. This is definitely my new favourite stick.
