Propylene Glycol is a fluid compound that has become one of the best ways to maintain humidity levels inside of a humidor. Diluting propylene glycol 50% with distilled water can actually self-regulate the humidity of a humidor, without needing be adjusted.

Propylene glycol has an additional effect of preventing the development of mold inside traditional sponge humidors. The compound neutralizes the effects of different chemicals in the air and water that can cause mold to form inside of a humidor.

By diluting the solution 50/50 with distilled water, it will form a thin layer on the surface of the humidor, increasing humidity when it’s below 70% and decreasing it when it is above 70%. The self-regulation takes a bit of time to adjust to the correct levels, but can protect your cigars for longer after it does. With less necessary maintenance of a humidor, you are able to spend your time on more important things than regulating humidity levels for your cigars.
