A cigar humidor is a necessary item for any cigar enthusiast. They provide a safe enclosure to protect cigars from deteriorating and losing their quality and flavor. Humidors are made from several materials, with the most common being wood. Spanish cedar, American red cedar, and Honduran mahogany, are the most common types of wood used to line a humidor box.

The benefit of putting cigars in a humidor comes from the aging process. With time, cigars not placed in a humidor will dry out, lose their flavor, and in some environments, can get moldy. Humidor’s keep your cigars in a stable environment at the same humidity, which promotes the aging process and preserves the cigar until it is smoked.

There are 2 basic types of humidor construction, solid wood and veneer. Contrary to common sense, solid Spanish cedar humidors aren’t always better than veneer. A veneer allows the humidor to expand and contract with variable humidity, which makes it more durable over the life of its use.
