Introduction
Trinidad has always been one of my all-time favourite cigar. Just thinking of the old band fundadores (El Laguito factory production from 1998 to 2003) gives me goose bumps.
The story sets the creation of the brand in 1969 as a different blend used for diplomatic purposes. Only in 1998 a current production Trinidad was release to the public. This production was set in El Laguito (Cohiba factory), for the famous long and thin habanos: Fundadores. In 2003, the brand moved out from its mother factory to the province to grow the production.
Trinidad is known for very smooth and elegant blend with a slow and balanced development mainly characterized by its creamy texture.

Trinidad Vigia

Trinidad Vigia

Origin : CubaTrinidad
Format : Petit Robusto
Size : 4.3 (110 mm) x 54
Hand-Made
Price : ~$14 each

First of all, some quick background info for those of you who are not familiar with the brand:
Trinidad is a Cuban cigar brand with an interesting history. Way back in its early days, Trinidad only manufactured exclusive cigars for visiting diplomats. It was only in 1998 that Trinidad cigars became available to the public. At that time, there was only one Trinidad cigar available, known as the “Fundadores.” The Fundadores was long and thin, quite the opposite of the short, fat Trinidad Vigia which I am reviewing today.

After its public debut in 1998, Trinidad expanded with more vitolas—for a while. In 2012, they cut back. In fact, the Vigia is the first new regular production from Trinidad since 2012’s withdrawal of the Robusto T and the Robusto Extra.

So that gives you some context on the Vigia. Let’s check it out.

Trinidad Coloniales

Trinidad Coloniales

Origin : CubaTrinidad
Format : Coloniales (Corona)
Size : 5.2 x 44 (132 x 17 mm)
Hand-Made
Price : ~$9 each

Continuing with a newcomer’s perspective on cigars, I have selected the Trinidad Coloniales for this review because it’s a mid-range Cuban, quite affordable and, at 45-60 minutes, easily digestible for the inexperienced palate.

Trinidad Short Robusto T 2010 Limited Edition

Trinidad Short Robusto T 2010 Limited Edition

Origin : CubaTrinidad
Format : Short Robusto
Size : 4 x 50
Hand-Made
Price : ~$15+ each

After getting a couple of reminders from readers, I guess it’s about time to start reviewing the new 2010 Cuban limited editions. What have we got here? A Montecristo Grand Edmundo (5.9 x 52), a Partagas Serie D Especial (5.6 x 50) and a Trinidad Short Robusto T (4 x 50). Notice the ring gauges… The Monte sounds plain boring, Partagas is not really a favorite brand of mine, so the choice of the first cigar to test was fairly quick – Trinidad Robusto T was my favorite cigar in 2009 and I couldn’t help thinking that there would be other similarities between these two besides the name.

Trinidad Robusto T

Trinidad Robusto T

Origin : CubaTrinidad
Format : Robusto
Size : 4.8 x 50
Ring : 50
Hand-Made
Price : ~$13-15 each

Trinidad Robusto T was introduced in 2009 to finally offer a robusto vitola within the Trinidad line. As soon as some lucky ones started getting their hands on these sticks, positive reviews flooded the cigar press. At the same time, Montecristo Open were getting high marks in cigar publications all over the world, to be literally destroyed both in the blogosphere and on cigar forums a couple of weeks later. So, is this another “Open” or a true success?

Trinidad Ingenios is the first limited edition by the brand, released in 2007. This classic lonsdale retails for around 18 USD per single and won’t be an everyday smoke for most of us. In this review I will try to determine whether it’s worth the premium.

Trinidad Robusto Extra

Ring : 50
Wrapper : Cuba
Binder : Cuba
Filler : Cuba

I have been looking forward to trying a cigar from the Trinidad line for quite some time. Although the price of the Robusto Extra scared me off a bit, I ended up splurging on one because I couldn’t seem to find a Trinidad available in any other format in Marseille. Needless to say, when I eventually lit this baby up, I was expecting a great deal from it.
