The Anejados concept was introduced first in 2015 with the Romeo Y Julieta Piramides Anejados. Since then Cuba has released few cigar with a double band mentioning the concept name: Anejados. All these cigars have been aged in Cuba for 5 years or more, allowing the blend to be rounded and mellower when released.
Se far I haven’t had a very impressive cigar coming out of this new range from Habanos S.A.

H. Upmann Sir Winston Gran Reserva (Pre-Release)

H. Upmann Sir Winston Gran Reserva 2011

Origin : CubaH. Upmann
Format : Churchill / Julieta No. 2
Size : 178 mm (7) x 47
Ring : 47
Hand-Made
Price : N/A (prerelease)

H. Upmann is one of the oldest and most respected brands. Created in 1844, the marca is known for its soft to medium blend and delicate flavors.

I have always been a Sir Winston aficionado. Its creamy texture and soft development makes it a lovely long cigar for any time of the day. Therefore I was delighted when Habanos S.A. decided to make a Gran Reserva with one of my favorite vitola from an elegant flavored blend.

Habanos will be releasing 5,000 numbered boxes of 15 cigars.

The first night of the XIXe festival del Habanos was quite challenging. The rain was the last minute guest and didn’t allow the cigar to have the launch we were all expecting for. Luckily we still managed to receive some samples for us to enjoy.

As most of the pre-release it is important to note that the cigars are coming straight from the factory and didn’t have enough time for the leaves to blend between each other. However this is a Gran Reserva therefore the leaves have been aged for 5 years before being rolled. All leaves are coming from the 2011 crop.

He did it again! Luca G. reviewed for us the very awaited new release of H. Upmann, the Magnum 54. If you have smoked it, leave a comment below to tell us what you think of this new cigar.

Background
Founded in 1844 by a German banker, Mr. Herman Upmann, who gives the name to the Brand, he loved cigars so much to move in Havana and set up a factory producing fine cigar. H.Upmann cigars are light to medium in strength, totally handmade using long filler with all leaves sourced from Vuelta Abajo in the Pinar del Rio, region of Cuba also known as one of the finest region in the world for tobacco growing. The Magnum 54 was launched in March 2016 at the 18th Festival des Habanos. However we had to wait until 2017 to finally see it on the shelves of our favorite cigar shops and lounges.

H. Upmann Naturals (Vintage Review)

H. Upmann Naturals

Origin : CubaH. Upmann
Format : Panetela
Size : 6.1 x 37 (155 x 15 mm)
Box date : 1970’s
Discontinued in the 80’s
Machine-Made
Price : roughly $20-25/cigar

There is an excitement that portends the smoking a Cuban cigar that has aged in a tube for roughly 40 years and the natural bias to presume this will be a spectacular smoke, one is shocked by the plain ugliness of this cigar. For comparison purposes, I took a photo of the H. Upmann Naturals next to a current production H. Upmann Royal Robusto.

H. Upmann Naturals and Royal Robusto

H. Upmann Naturals were machine-made cigars always sold in tubes. Discontinued in the early 1980s. Not sure of the box year, but I’d guess late-1970s.

H. Upmann Super Corona

H. Upmann Super Coronas

Origin : CubaH. Upmann
Format : Corona Gorda
Size : 5 5/8 x 46 (143 x 18 mm)
Box date : SCO – August ’00
Discontinued in 2002
Hand-Made
Price : Roughly $6/cigar in 2000, now approximately $20-25/cigar

With the 2014 Bolivar Editión Limitada resurrecting the “Super Corona” name, I decided to try the long discontinued H. Upmann Super Corona (“HUSC”). I really like the H. Upmann line and I always enjoy an aged H. Upmann. I had one remaining single HUSC from a fiver as well as an unbroken box (same box code). I reviewed the single but have included photographs from the unbroken box. As these are smoked and become very hard to find, I think we could see market values rise to $700/box in the next few years.
