Gurkha Assassin

Gurkha Assassin

Origin : Dominican RepublicGurkha
Format : Toro
Size : 6 x 50
Wrapper : Brazilian
Binder : Dominican
Filler : Nicaraguan and Peruvian
Hand-Made
Price : ~$9 each

The Gurkha Assassin is a Nicaraguan firecracker blended by Paul Flores and premiered on the U.S. market in 2009. I had the benefit of having Paul at my local tobacconist this past week and he told me that the Assassin was blended as a full-bodied cigar with sweetness and refinement… So basically he took the ass-kicking Evil and added some Peruvian tobacco to the filler to add additional flavor and complexity… I’ve been smoking em’ all week and I can’t wait to fire up another one right now. Many thanks to Paul Flores and Butthead’s Tobacco Emporium for making this review possible!

Gurkha Vintage Shaggy Toro (Quick Smoke Series)

Gurkha Vintage Shaggy Band

Format : Toro
Size : 6 x 50
Wrapper : Dominican Republic
Filler : Dominican Republic
Binder : Dominican Republic
Hand-Made
Price : ~$7.00 each

Gurkha Vintage Shaggy ToroOh, Mr. Hansotia… how many different cigars do you make? Here’s yet a new cigar from Gurkha. The Vintage Shaggy Series comes in a cool trunk and the cigars are surrounded by loose tobacco.

The cigar has a shaggy foot which is always neat to me, because you can taste the filler separate before you incorporate the wrapper and binder.

The problem with that is when the cigar isn’t that great. This cigar has a nice draw, flaky ash and a very one-dimensional flavor profile. It’s medium in body, mild in strength with simple notes of wood and leather.

No complexity here and not much more to write about this cigar.

Being a major fan of the Robusto format, I knew from first sight at the tobacco shop that I would be picking up one of the Gurkha Regent Robusto cigars. After trying it, I’m glad I did, though I kind of got mixed feelings on this smoke.

I bought the Gurkha Grand Reserve Robusto on a whim and didn’t research it until after the purchase. After looking into it a bit, I found that it was combined with Luis XIII Cognac. I really didn’t know what to expect from it, and was I surprised.

Talk about your intense cigar! I found this one to be the epiphany of the phrase, “Full Flavor.” I really like Gurkha The Beast as a midday to afternoon smoke, perhaps offset with a good vanilla coffee.
