I can sum up this review in four words, but since this is a family friendly site, I shall use only their acronym — O M F G. I had my trusty tobacconist search for an out of the ordinary stick that was not widely distributed, and that did not cost a small fortune to purchase. He hit the mark on both counts with this one. It is without doubt in my mind, a STELLAR robusto, despite its young age and recent release this past spring. This smoke does not greet you with a warm “Hello”, but greets you at the door after a long day’s hard work wearing nothing but a smile with a spatula in its hand and asks you, “Hey stranger, want to flip my pancakes??“ There is a reason why this company (Hunters & Frankau – importer of Cuban cigars into the UK) has been around for 225 years, and this release is a prime example.

    Appearance : [rating:4.5/5]
This cigar has a nice cinnamon color with few, if any, spines of any kind. The head’s tip is a hybrid between your classic blunt (say, a Hoyo Epicure #2) and torpedo (say, a Montecristo #2), which allows you forgiveness when clipping and also affords you the opportunity to adjust your draw without causing the head to unbind during the smoke. Almost as smooth as glass, this Ramon was free of any bloom or visually noticeable defects. Any hint of oiliness went without notice.

    Construction : [rating:4.5/5]
It was more than obvious that great care and attention to detail was given to the manufacture of this cigar. To add upon the above said praises, this smoke had a technically PERFECT burn from foot to head. Lighting was effortless with an easy draw throughout. Cynical of the burn of this stick, I allowed it to extinguish itself twice, and then relit it. Upon relighting, the stick STILL burned with a perfect burn. Later into the box, I did run across two sticks that did give me pause because of substantially uneven burn, otherwise this morsel is just about as good as they come from a construction point of view.

    Flavor : [rating:4.875/5] (4.875)
Where do I begin?? Upon opening the box, I was greeted with a plume of rich and earthy odor from a half meter away. Right then and there, I knew I was in for a pleasant ride, and this stick did not disappoint. I lost count of how many notes I picked up with this Ramon. From a nutty flavored light, I was then able to pick up butterscotch, caramel and all sorts of hues of chocolate that accompanied the robustos’ earthy, almost wood-like and spicy undertones throughout all thirds of the cigar. The Ramon sealed it for me when I picked up just a whiff of what us Yanks know as aged high quality Kentucky Bourbon. None of the flavor notes overpowered any of the others, and the stick was able to be enjoyed well past the ring without becoming bitter. If they taste this good at this early of an age, my mind could only wonder what they would taste like 5 to 10 years from now.

    Value : [rating:4.125/5] (4.125)
At $36US apiece, this smoke’s price point is a bit lofty for the average collector, BUT when compared to a Partagas Lusitanias 2007 Gran Reserva, you get 18% more tobacco by weight at 60% of the cost. It is well worth picking up a handful of singles if you can find them, and sticking them in your humidor to rest and age. They are ready to smoke upon purchase, but do yourself a favor and let them age a few years.

    Overall Rating : [rating:4.5/5]
Ramon Allones outdid itself with this limited serial numbered release. Its appearance on the market created a lot of buzz within our online community and bloggers, and it was painfully obvious to see why after enjoying a couple of these tempting morsels. This cigar is one that I would definitely smoke if the opportunity presented itself again in the future.

    A superior smoke, indeed.

    Enjoy!!!

Great review! I have one of these that I got while in the UK. I knew this was an awesome stick. You just re-affirmed why I’ve been holding out on it. I’ll see what it’s like once we hit 2020. Should be a knock out I think.

I had a chance to smoke one of these beautiful cigars (thanks again for sending me one!). Indeed, the Ramon Allones 225th Anniversary of Hunters & Frankau has great looks:

Construction-wise, mine had a decent burn (despite a windy environment), the draw was a tad tight. I totally agree with you in regards to flavors – it’s a very complex cigar, with rich and bold earthy and buttery notes. Thoroughly enjoyed it, if I had more I’d smoke one every year as there’s definitely ageing potential here.
