On my last visit to the local shop, I just couldn't resist. I must admit that if I didn't have a cigar blog, I would have probably passed on it. Spending over $40 on a single cigar is not among my habits. However, this is a Cohiba, this is a Behike (it used to be the most expensive cigar in the world a few years ago!) and I have a way to tell thousands of cigar aficionados how it smokes - and this makes it worth the price.

Cohiba Behike was (re)released in 2010 during the XII Festival del Habano. The term Behike was first found in a travel note written somewhere in the 16th century and it designated a tribal chief. The characteristic feature of this cigar is the use of "medio tiempo" leaves in the blend. These rare upper leaves which are supposed to receive more sun light are expected to add a distinct taste to the cigar. According to Habanos, this is the reason why Behikes will be produced in very limited quantities every year.

Presented in black lacquered boxes of 10, three vitolas are available: Cohiba Behike 52 (Petit Robusto, 4.7 x 52), Cohiba Behike 54 (Robusto Extra, 5.7 x 54) and the giant jaw-breaker Cohiba Behike 56 (Double Robusto, 6.5 x 56). Today, I will be tasting the Cohiba Behike 52.

In 2003, Habanos SA released a special edition box of Cohiba cigars. It was the Cohiba Selección Reserva and it contained 30 cigars in an assortment of sizes including six robusto sized cigars. My sample was very generously given to me by Brother of the Leaf who happened to own a bar in Denmark. I had always hoped to make it over there and check out his bar and smoke a cigar with him but as it happens we have lost touch and I am not sure where he is anymore. I have been saving this very special cigar for a special occasion and I am happy to be finally putting it to flame in celebration of 5 years of blogging about my passion for fine hand made cigars.

This guest review was submitted by a good friend of this blog, Richard Bui. Happy reading!

Cohiba is one of the cigar brands that need no introductions. The flagship brand of Habanos S.A. and the personal brand to Dictator Fidel Castro, Cohiba is the cream of the crop for Cuban cigars and you certainly pay top dollar for that.

As the Robusto is my favorite cigar vitola, it should come as no surprise that the Cohiba Robusto would be a cigar I would be interested in. I have looked forward to having one for a very long time and opportunity came knocking. Here are my thoughts.

This great review comes courtesy of David Chen - and we hope to see more in future! Enjoy.

I will not bore you with the history of the Cohiba marca as it is already so well known. In addition, a lot has already been written about this particular vitola from Cohiba which is among one of its most popular. It is viewed by many as one of the best Robustos in the world, and has gone a long way towards popularizing this format. I recently purchased a box, and upon their arrival I noticed they were already over a year old. After about a month’s time, to allow them to settle in my humidor, I opened the SLB to sample this Cuban gem. Here are my thoughts…

My latest foray into the Siglo line is the Siglo I. An expensive little guy, but these have a great reputation. So, I was looking forward to the experience.

This is a gorgeous Laguito No. 2 that I was very excited to try. My luck hasn't been so great with the Cohiba Siglo line, in that they have been too grassy for my taste. So I was hoping that this one would suit me better. The exact box code of this cigar is unknown, but is almost certainly from 2007/2008 production.

Cohiba is one of the most famous cigar brands in the world. Thanks to the United States trade embargo with Cuba and General Cigar’s appropriation of the trademark in the US market, it is also a brand name surrounded by a lot of confusion. There are a surprising number of people out there including some who consider themselves “cigar smokers” who fail to understand that the famous Cohiba, the Cuban version, in no way, shape or form is related to the Cohiba that is for sale in the US.

I'm bringing you something special today. Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios, a custom robusto-sized cigar introduced in 2007, is indeed an elite treat. At over $20 each, it is not an everyday smoke (well, at least for me) and I only reward myself with one on very important occasions.
