    Tasting Notes

    Appearance
The Balmoral Lanceros 2016 comes in a cellophane wrap to protect the cigar when transporting and manipulating. It wears two bands, the foot one mentions the Lancero FT and the main one the edition limited 2016.
The wrapper is maduro with a very nice silky feeling and oiliness to it.

    Tasting
    1st Part
Often, when you light a lancers size, you are a bit worried for its draw. Lately many slim ring gauge cubans have been badly rolled and my last box of Montecristo Especial No.1 was disaster.
The Balmoral Lanceros XO proved that extra care was given to this production. The draw is perfect! The right balance between resistance and air flow.
From the very beginning the amount of smoke being delivered by the cigar is incredible. The burn is constant and the aroma pleasant.
The acidity is quite high and creates a long finish on the palate reminding of coconut and fresh cocoa notes.
The ash is grey and very solid. I tried few times to put it down on the ashtray thinking it would fall and the gentle tap I gave it wasn’t strong enough to make it fall.
The bitterness is sometimes high with a grassy feeling. The after taste is vey woody and strong.

    2nd Part
The draw and density of smoke is still amazing. I am really enjoying it.
The burn is surprisingly fast and I got to the second part in 10 minutes (I am not a fast smoker).
The second third develops a nice cedar wood aroma and the main flavour element is the sweetness being very present. This bitterness is still present and takes over the grate first taste of cocoa.
The finish is shorter and the strength lower. The development is very interesting as the strength and flavours are really slowly balancing and creating a round smooth feeling with a nice strength.

    3rd Part
I didn’t feel much changes on the last third flavour wise. However the increase on strength gives you a nice kick. A rich tobacco feeling, with a chewy structure is predominant.
The construction is still perfect. Draw, burn, nothing to mention as they are close to perfection to me.
The after taste develops some ammonia and vegetal notes. The blend is complex and allows you to always enjoy something different.
What a great finish! an Incredible sweetness on the palate evolving to a nuttiness and vanilla.

Very nice review of this Balmoral Añejo XO. And nice to see another premium cigar with a ring gauge in the 30s, hand-rolled with sufficient skill that the draw is easy. I wonder if we may soon see even more of a revival of the concept of the elegant slender cigar.
