I am a sucker for petit/short robustos. I like smoking in the mornings with my coffee and a smaller vitola affords me the perfect amount of time to peruse the morning newspapers. A 45 minute to 1 hour smoke allows me to read my USA Today and catch up on the today’s propaganda. And I believe with the fairly new, Avo Heritage Short Robusto, I have found my morning “go to” bullcrap news smoke.

    Appearance : [rating:3/5]
The Avo Heritage looks pretty shabby with its bumpy light brown wrapper and ugly triple cap. But even though it is ugly, it has a charm about it much like your best friend’s newborn child. It has a slight box press, very small veins, and quite a bit of heft to it. The cigar is little squishy because it appears to be loosely filled. Gotta love that classy band though!

    Construction : [rating:4/5]
After snipping the end off with a straight cut, the draw seemed effortless,… a little too effortless. I was immediately scared that this little guy was going to burn fire hot. All worries were put to rest though after lighting. The smoke was plentiful and thick, and the little guy burned pretty cool (surprisingly!). The burn was razor sharp through the first inch and then started to go all over the place after that. The ash dropped off after two inches, when I touched it up a bit, and then the shorty burned like a dream all the way to the end.

    Flavor : [rating:4/5]
Creamy leather and hay on the dry draw once circumcised. It started with that familiar Davidoff start of cloying spiciness with hay flavors and funky/musky aromas. To me this smoke seems much more polished than some of the Davidoffs I have smoked. The retrohale is amazing with sweet raw vanilla components mixed in with the initial hay muskiness. The second third mellows out into light leather and hay notes. The last third started to belt out gigantic plumes of thick creamy smoke which was ultra smooth and delicious. All in all, medium bodied with a noticeable nic kick!

    Value : [rating:5/5]
Heeelllssss yeah I would pay $7.00 for this one again! In fact, get me a box of them. One heck of a deal for the price point for a premium cigar, especially a Davidoff type product.

    Overall Rating : [rating:4/5]
This was not an overachiever by any means, but just right in every way. This cigar delivers enjoyment and a good set of complex flavors for a nice price tag. The distinct muskiness aroma and hay flavors are not always my cup of tea, but I don’t doubt that I am in the minority on this aspect. Even though this cigar was not completely my flavor profile, I can say this is one of the better cigars I have smoked this year when I consider all of its excellent attributes. A solid “go to” stick that should be in everybody’s humidor.

Took the chance to try a robusto version of this cigar from a sampler supplied by AC. A review would be very similar to the comments on the short robusto posted above. The fuller version was very peppery/spicey though. Probably a bit too much for my taste buds, but fans of that profile will really enjoy the robusto size as well.

Aaron, you’re spot on about this short robusto. Not the prettiest girl at the prom but well built, consistent, tons of great flavor and an exceptional value. What more can we ask from a 50-60 minute smoke?

      🙂
I’m still rather new to cigars and I had one of these yesterday.( I was a little worried because, a week ago, the head managed to soak up a bit of distilled water that I’d spilled on it when recharging my humidifier. Before I lit it, I removed it from the humidor and put it in a zip-bag with a cedar-skirt from a King B the day before as my way of ‘dry-boxing’)

Wow,the volume of smoke from this cigar was amazing.Even though my palette is still untrained, I found the first third the most complex and flavorful third I’ve ever had. I think I caught notes of coffee, caramel, and cedars hopping in and out. I loved it.

Aaron, I think you nailed this one. I too was drawn to this one more out of curiousity than experience. Smoked like a dream (IMHO) – and for a newcomer to cigar smoking, it was great to find a stick that embodied all the things I believed cigar smoking was about.

Nicely put Gerry. But this cigar happened to be a one night stand that I turned into a relationship!

Wait a minute here are we talking about the same cigar? I tried 3 of these about 2 weeks ago to give it a fair shot. my eval: Appearance–the girl you see at 2:AM in the bar.
Construction–tad loose but on all 3 loose spots.
Flavor–not bad (it did have a hint of vanilla)basic for the most part with a small burst in the middle(very small) if you blink you’ll miss it.
Value– sorry too many better for the price, will take it if its free or a door prize
Overall rating– pleasant but don’t call me I’ll call you.
